The Saturn Return of the Internet: the internet has grown up
JANUARY 11, 2021
Last week Donald Trump has been permanently suspended from Twitter. This was the icing on the cake after Facebook, Instagram and Twitter introduced warning labels to posts with false claims in 2020. Some are upset that these companies are intervening online and call it censorship. Others believe it's a good thing that context is added to misinformation that could mislead or harm others. However, whatever you think of this development, fact is that the internet has learned how to set boundaries. The internet has matured and made some rules. This is where Saturn comes into play.
Humans, events, inventions and countries have their own birth chart. The internet is no exception. Most astrologers use August 6, 1991 as the date of birth of the internet: the day British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee published the first-ever website. That day Saturn was to be found in 2°44’ Aquarius. Saturn takes about 29 years to go around the Sun and move through all the signs. Therefore it also takes about 29 years for Saturn to return to the same place where it was in a birth chart. That moment is called the "Saturn Return". The Saturn Return marks a period of maturity and growth. In short, it's when Saturn, the great teacher, is telling you to grow the fuck up and act like an adult.
The Saturn Return of the internet started in 2020, when Saturn moved to Aquarius and will end when Saturn moves out of Aquarius in 2023. Last week the internet experienced the peak of its Saturn Return when transiting Saturn crossed 2°44’ Aquarius: the exact spot where Saturn was when the internet was born. This peak coincided with Trump's ban on Twitter. It was like the internet was saying: "I will no longer be pushed around!" Another example is that Pornhub had come under attack for the distribution of illegal content and had to delete millions of videos last December. Saturn must have been proud.
Although the peak of the Saturn Return of the internet has already passed, the gatekeepers of the internet will continue to implement social rules concerning our online behavior in the coming two years, when Saturn remains in the sign of Aquarius, whether you like it or not...
